Kodak just pushed forward the envelope in its digital video cameras lineup with the new Kodak Zi8. The new Kodak Zi8 now sits atop other pre-existing Kodak digital video cameras with superior features. It boasts a groundbreaking full HD 1080p recording capability that has never been seen before in the previous two versions and any other pocket-sized HD camcorder in the market. The Kodak Zi8, as the third iteration of the company’s sleek video recording gadgets, successfully beats other competing camcorders such as the Flip video camera series with its outstanding feature list. It weighs 110 grams without batteries and has dimensions of 2.4 x 4.5 x 0.9 inches.

Perhaps the most significant feature of the Kodak Zi8 Pocket Video Camera is its new capability to capture footages in full HD 1080p (1920×1080 pixels) resolution at a 30 frames per second frame rate. Kodak has also added a function that lets users capture still pictures up to 5-megapixel in 16:9 widescreen HD resolution – another unique feature across Kodak’s digital camera series. Kodak Zi8 sports an built-in image stabilization program, a common feature of professional HD cameras, which prevents excessive blurs and renders the recorded HD footages to appear sharper, clearer, and higher in terms of quality.

The Kodak Zi8 has a 5 MP CMOS sensor, clearly a significant jump from its predecessors which only featured 1.6 MP sensors. The Kodak Zi8 Pocket Video Camera has a 6.3 mm, f/2.8 fixed focus lens with two focus modes: normal and macro. It features 4x digital zoom shown in its massive 2.4 LCD display that is used at the same time as a viewfinder. It is also through this vibrant and vivid display that recorded HD videos and still photos can be premiered before they are transferred to a computer or viewed on an HDTV.

The Kodak Zi8 HD Camcorder has an internal storage of 128 MB, however, this can be expanded up to a whopping 32 GB SD/SDHC memory cards which could offer up to 10 hours of high definition video recording. Performance-wise, the Kodak Zi8’s image stabilization feature makes a grand leap from its previous iterations. Coupled with outstanding auto-white balance and auto-exposure algorithm, Kodak Zi8 recorded videos are not only in HD in terms of resolution but in video quality as well which is perfect for home video creation, video projects in schools, and daily shoot-and-record moments.

The file format used in Kodak Zi8 HD video recording is MOV (QuickTime) using H.264 video and AAC LC audio codecs, while captured HD images are stored in JPEG format. Overall, there are five different capture modes on the Kodak Zi8 HD camcorder: 1080p (1920 × 1080) at 30 fps, 720p (1280 x 720) at 60 fps, 720p (1280 x 720) at 30fps, WVGA (848 x 480) at 30fps, and still image capture (5.3 MP, 16:9 widescreen).

Like its two siblings, Zx1 and Zi6, users can also benefit with Kodak Zi8’s easy upload feature to Facebook and YouTube social networking websites – making it easy to share recorded videos and make them viral. Kodak Zi8 is now cable-free when you hook it to a computer: its new flexible swing-out USB 2.0 arm provides function for charging, uploading and sharing of recorded HD content. In addition, the Kodak Zi8 in its interface also has AV out, HDMI, DC in and external microphone jack that supports stereo input.

The Kodak Zi8 HD camcorder is powered with a Li-Ion Rechargeable Digital Camera Battery KLICK-7004 with an AC adapter, which is included in the box.
